About Us
Ionadas: Noun. Gaelic for “ubiety,” the state of existing or of being present.
In May 2009, ionadas local founder Brian Combs gave into his desire to work with smaller companies, and left Apogee Search, the company he co-founded in 2001. He had helped grow Apogee Search into one of the largest independent full-service search marketing agencies in the United States and had worked with many notable brands including NPR, Cavender’s Western Wear, Golfsmith, the Olive Garden, The SCOOTER Store, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Brian has actually been working with locally focused websites since early in his career. At Quadralay Corporation in 1993, he created one of the first websites about a specific city, Austin City Links, which gained accolades from The Austin American Statesman, The Austin Chronicle, The Houston Chronicle, and Texas Monthly. It was chosen as the “Best Local WWW Site” by the 1995 Reader’s Poll in the Austin Chronicle.
With ionadas local, Brian has made this expertise available to companies of all sizes with a suite of services to drive prospective customers to your website, store or phone. ionadas local is located in Austin, Texas, and serves clients around the United States.
About the “ionadas local” Name
Being a Scottish boy living in Austin, Texas, Brian wanted the name of his new company to have either Spanish or Gaelic origins. And he wanted the meaning of the name to match the company’s mission of helping marketers of local products and services.
He found a web forum that offered free translations between Gaelic and English. He posted asking for variants of the word “local”. One of the words given was “ionadas”, which means “ubiety” or “the condition of being located in a particular place.”
Seeing that ionadas.com was available, the decision was quickly made, and ionadas local was born!
